Sugar RIver Observation Platform

We were riding through all this beautiful forestry.  I spotted an observation deck .  I decided to stop for about 10 minutes and just sit there look, breath, think.

Riding a bike is a great way to see the country - but so is stopping.

Mailbag!!!!!!

Dan,

The truth is I'm not happy with the helmet cam for many reasons.  Mainly it's a control issue, I can't see what I'm shooting, and rarely is it anything worth using.

Instead I've been pulling out the Everio camcorder and placing it on the handlebar bag as I ride.  Slightly more dangerous but better quality - and I can see what i'm shooting.

My safety (and others) is of course a small sacrifice for the viewers of this blog.

The Bike Medic

This is Mike Palombi.  He's an old pal of Mike Riscica's.

We had been planning to stay with Mike while we were in Illionis.  Tomorrow Mike Palombi, the Bike Medic will ride with us to Fort Atkinson, Wisconsin.

Discreetely in Chicago

As you can see, I have yet to master the "talking to the camera in a public place" element to video blogging.  The population hasn't accepted it as a normal behavior integrated into society yet, so they try to sabatoge your audio with loud wooden chair scrapings on the floor sounds.

Yesterday we decided to address commenting on the crazy guy blog. Because of recent inactivity we have noticed a lot of people reading and not commenting, so Mike wrote this up:

Team Northern Tier is really bored. ::slapping knee:: We're bike riding: 40, 50, 60 and sometimes 70 miles a day. We need some interaction. Each day our journal gets 1,000+ hits a day and only a few people leave us comments in the guestbook.
We LOVE it when people leave us comments, especially from people that we have met on the road. It gives us something to think about, it feels good to know people are reading. Sometimes we wonder if anyone cares and if those 1,000 hits a day are just coming in from our Moms obsessively checking the journal.
Mikeriscica has the journal linked to his cell phone so whenever someone leaves a comment, we get it immediately and read it on the road.
Leave us a comment telling us your reading, tell us a joke, make fun of us, say something.
If your unsure of how to leave a comment, scroll to the top of the page and click the link that says Guestbook. Or you could just click here

There were a flood of comments today due to this post. It was great. What happens is, Mike has these comments emailed to him on his phone. During breaks Mike checks the phone and we see who has commented and have big laughs. It keeps the morale of the group way up.

Now, we know for a fact that a lot of people read the crazy guy journal.
And I know that a lot of people are watching the videos on this site. So, I'm supplementing Mikes post above with a favor to please comment on the videos as well for the same reasons described above. Let us know what you like and don't like. Goof on us. Tell us we're out of our minds for carrying so much electronic equipment.

It helps make this experience a lot more interesting. Starting conversations is a huge part of riding through these towns and it would be great to start conversations the people who are keeping track of our progress.

And since the ratings shot threw the roof when I dropped out for 2 weeks due to the tendenitis, I want to say that

MAYBE THAT WILL HAPPEN AGAIN! STAY TUNED to the DRAMA that is my KNEE! It could BLOW out ANYTIME!

YOU want to be the first one to break the news to your friends that Jamie's knee blew out again, don't you? So that you'll appear more "on top of things" in the cycling world? You can't unless you KEEP WATCHING!

Thanks friends. And my knee is fine right now....

BUT WHO KNOWS!!!
